Music at St Aloysius' College

In August 2011 we begin the College's 153rd session. Musical highlights of last session included Haydn's great Paukenmesse performed in the lovely acoustic of the Glasgow City Hall. In February, sixteen S6 members of the choir decamped for the annual visit to Kibera, Nairobi. In the second term, the Choir toured to Bruges and sang Mass at the English Convent as well as giving a concert in St Salvator's Cathedral. Later that month, we gave a performance of Handel's Messiah in St Aloysius Church, while our Summer Arts evenings in June were given over to pocket-sized versions of Gluck's Orfeo and Mozart's The Magic Flute.
The Autumn Concert will take place in the Concert Hall of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in November and will include Haydn's Te Deum in C as well as music and folk-songs to commemorate the centenary of the unification of Italy. In March we have taken over the Cottier Theatre in Hyndland to perform two Purcell pieces - Dido and Aeneas and King Arthur. We are also slotted in for a performance of Mozart's Requiem at the sumptuous Pollokshields Church of Scotland. The session will finish in June with a performance of the great St Matthew Passion of Bach.
