Music at St Aloysius' College
In August 2010 we begin the College's 152nd session. Musical highlights of last session included the Solemn Sesquicentennial Mass with Cardinal O'Brien during which the College Choir again performed the anthem, Serenity, presented to us by James MacMillan, and our Gala Sesquicentennial concert in the Royal Concert Hall in November 2009. As well as a new sequence of settings of songs by Robert Burns (born 1759), the concert featured a new commission, Suscipe, Domine, a setting of the famous prayer of St Ignatius, by Howard Goodall, and Carmina Burana by Carl Orff.
This session will begin with the annual Opera Group performances at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe of extracts from Bizet'sCarmen and Mozart's Le Nozze di Figaro . The Autumn Concert will take place in the Glasgow City Hall on Monday 22nd November and will include Haydn's Missa in Tempore Belli and the second performance of our commissioned work, Suscipe by Howard Goodall.
